im sorry this is really fucking petty but that review did annoy me. Helmet were one of my favourite bands when i was growing up, and just like another of my childhood heros mr Bungle they bear a moderate responsibility for the utter piss of the late 90s nu metal mistake. but for fuck sake, if all you know of the band is what youve learnt through the nu metal thing then do some background before you write a review. and thats more than the amazon review of the release in question. there is more to Helmet than nu metal, from the proto jazz-core of strap it on to the musical facination of Betty, for fuck sake man, Deftones? the only thing they have in common is that that guy was reasonably good at taking of Page's riffs sometimes, but still had no idea about how to put together a song like him, let along copy anything he did other than the 5th chords, like anyone other than a traditional jazz trained guitarist like hamilton could write those Coltranesque solos. talk about black flag, tool, big black, quicksand, how shit aftertaste was, how page hamilton should have stuck to being in david bowies band after helmet and not done this obvious cash in of reforming the band after his last attempt with the band Ghandi totally failed, or how john stanier is a great drummer whos slightly wasted in Tomohawk and what you think about the jsut released Battles (who are playing london next month i believe) record. but just dont talk about nu metal like thats all Helmet are. im only 21 and shit like that jsut makes me feel old and causes me to write pathetic stuff like this at 1 am and go listen to my entire Jesus Lizard backcatalogue.
