Obvious, aint it? so what your saying is, bands should not perhaps try and get better equipment, or use that £400 to get another day or so in the recording studio, but rather they should release a 7", because it instantly makes you more credible? Do you write for NME or somthing? Are you a total cock? Its fuck all to do with a "sink or swim" test, its just shallow. Up until now we have just given away all our recordings, our last one cost just under a grand and a lot of favours. I took part in medical trials for two months to fund most of this. There simply is not any more money to put out somthing which (despite how much i would like to, i mean, i havent bought anything other than vinyl for so long because CDs just dont feel like their worth anything) is esentially a vanity item if you dont have a label to put up the cash for it. bands have instruments and equipment to buy, practice spaces and storage to pay for, vans to repair, on top of just paying the rent and eating by working some obviously shit job so that you're able to take three days off a week practicing and travelig to shows. Fair enough if people put out stuff like that and manage to get somthign back (whether that be cash or cult stardom or whatever) thats worth the outgoing, but by no means is it a rule. and for fuck sake, have some kind of a clue about the cost of a record before you write somthing like this, 200 copies of a coloured record? do you know how much it would cost to master to vinyl and set the plate? you'd have to sell for stupid money to not be utterly reamed even if you didnt send out the 100 or so for promos. I'm with this. Really looking forward to the new CD by the way, Ralph. H.E.X. sounds fucking brilliant, love the bit where the drums trip on the pavement for a beat at the beginning

thankyou very much craig. im glad you like it, the CD will be on its way to you in the morning. to the person who originated this post, Im sorry that was slightly more agressive than was reasonable, i hope you can forgive the 2am anger of someone who has just rendered themselves destitute buying an old drummachine, a new synthesizer and two more speaker cabs, not seeing the funny side of somthing they wouldnt otherwise have given a shit about replying to.
and yeah, that is a very fruity drum thing in the second bar, i think thats what a life of funk does to you, its like polio.

I also own lots of vinyl but no vinyl player, not even my dads, I like vinyl, but CDs are easier to listen to when your out the house. Also I hate download singles, stuff for example like the new Reuben single, brilliant stuff but now I wont get to own it til they release their album, bastards. same happened with IShoes, Stockholm Syndrome, Ribcage and Theres No Such Thing As A Jagged Snake. Fuck the download chart. iShoes ended up on Schteeve anyway. and it was shit.

Well I'm listening to it now, its ok, but not great, mmm...I'm really not sure, I'll have to give it another listen as it does have some good tracks, some of those good tracks are one I already have though, like rapt dept and schteeve.
on an unrelated note, razorlight have rereleased up all night but with somewhere else as the extra track, I cannot describe how much bull shit that is, they've reached new levels, I think I'm going to have to do a review...

good thing about vinyl is that it is more of a product. its probably wise to release whatever it is on cd as well. but vyeah there are quite alot of poeple who watch bands, who also are happy to buy vinyl.
but yeah vinyl costs alot of money to make. apparently poland is a good place to get it done cheap. but of course you'll get nailed for VAT when it comes over. unless you have it delivered in boxes of 20 or summat. its what i've been told.
As for actual recording costs, that all depends on how you record. We do it ourselves on a 16 track and master it ourselves. So recording costs for us come to £0. But yeah using studios to record and master is also very expensive.
